Philanthorpy

Philanthropy enables Action on Disability to pursue long-term work that removes systemic barriers and strengthens equality for Disabled people. We welcome conversations with individuals, family foundations and organisations who share our commitment to independent living, inclusion and community-led change.

What Philanthropy Supports

Major gifts help us develop ambitious, sustainable work led by Disabled people, including:

  • Youth and Young Lives programmes – enabling Disabled young people to participate, gain skills and lead change
  • Employment and In-Work Support – tackling workplace barriers and promoting equality in local jobs
  • Independent Living Services – strengthening advice and support, peer support and accessible information that enable Disabled people to make informed choices
  • Co-production and policy influence – ensuring Disabled people shape the decisions that affect their lives
  • Accessible community spaces – improving and expanding our Centre for Independent Living
  • Campaigns and rights work – challenging systemic barriers across housing, transport, digital access and services

This approach reflects our commitment to genuine, lived-experience-led change.

Why Philanthropy Matters

Philanthropy advances the kind of long-term, values-driven work that contract funding rarely covers.

It enables AoD to:

  • remove disabling barriers across services and systems
  • build sustainable, community-led programmes
  • amplify the voice of Disabled people
  • pilot new ideas and respond to emerging need
  • invest in work that grows over time

Philanthropy strengthens the foundation for everything we do.

Our Work in Action

This short film shows Disabled young people taking part in Co-production and Disability Equality Training. It reflects AoD’s values in practice – lived experience, community leadership and challenging the barriers that shape Disabled people’s lives.
