In Work Support Service

Our In Work Support Service is here to support Deaf and Disabled people succeed in employment, and to support employers to create inclusive workplaces.

We can provide:

  • Support for Disabled people in paid employment
  • In Work support through support workers, job coaches, and travel assistance under the Access to Work scheme
  • Disability Equality Training for employers – raising awareness of duties under the Equality Act 2010 and supporting organisations to make reasonable adjustments in both recruitment and the workplace

Testimonies

  • Vahid’s Employer

It’s remarkable to see Vahid’s progress since he started with Baxter Storey and the massive changes in him as a person. When he first began, he would barely look at or speak to us, now it’s quite the opposite (in the most positive way!) He still has his challenges but is overcoming them very quickly and getting on with the tasks he is given. He’s got a great personality and just fits straight in!

Vahid has amazing support from his colleagues who have also developed as a team, learning patience, understanding and key supporting skills. He has an Action on Disability Job Coach with him 2 days a week now, which was previously 4 days – it’s good to see that gradual decrease as Vahid becomes more independent. He’s a vital part of our team and we are all so proud of him!

  • English National Opera (ENO) and London Coliseum Ltd

We have been collaborating with Action on Disability since 2022 to employ staff to join our Front of House team at the London Coliseum. We work closely with their employment team to ensure that the candidates are supported from application stage, interviewing and through to their development in the roles. Some of our staff have been with us since 2022, and the team of staff employed through Action on Disability is continually growing. We are very proud to work closely with them.

  • Amaan’s parent

Amaan will miss AoD’s support at work. The caring nature and assistance have been pivotal in his progress at work and we greatly appreciate the efforts you have made in equipping Amaan to be independent in his role and preparing him for this upcoming change.

    Thank you so much

  • Alex’s parent

I wanted to email to say thanks for all the support so far. Alex has grown in confidence whilst having support from an In Work support worker and if it wasn’t for AoD’s support and his work at City Harvest he has gone on to get another role independently.  We have been absolutely delighted that he found this himself and has got this far.

The new role, at a hospital, he has to talk to patients and he has a clicker counter to keep a tally of the patients he’s spoken to, so I think the transferable skills have really helped Alex.
